WVDA: Herd, habitat, hunters

Would you like to be more involved? Here's your chance to join the habitat crew and do some hands on conservation work!

 

The West Virginia Deer Association is hosting a habitat day in conjunction with the West Virginia Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers at Burnsville WMA on September 13th from 8am-2pm.  Volunteers will be needed for habitat work that will include hack and squirt as well as girdling methods on NNIS(Non Native Invasive Species) primarily autumn olive, and tree of heaven around field edges and in timber stands. These practices will be used on some native species also to release more desirable wildlife species such as oak and to promote more native herbaceous forb growth that is important to both game and nongame wildlife species.

Please RSVP by September 10th so we can get a head count of volunteers to better plan accommodations and what we can accomplish. Please bring long sleeve shirts, pants, boots, hat, gloves, and eye protection. Water and snacks will be provided, but it's always a good idea to bring additional to stay hydrated.  A light lunch will be provided by the WV Deer Association at completion of the work. 

All volunteers receive the official WVDA Habitat Crew t-shirt!
